David is currently a part-time Professor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation within the University of Nottingham 's Business School where he lectures and mentors in entrepreneurship, IP commercialisation and innovation. He is also Associate Dean (External Engagement) and Director of Executive Education.

David completed 3 degrees at the University of Nottingham in the 90's (BEng, MSc, PhD) and lives in Nottingham.

Areas of Expertise
As well as his expertise in academia and professional training, David also has a wealth of practical entrepreneurial experience gained in the UK and New Zealand from starting and running his own innovative businesses and social enterprises.

He has first-hand experience raising start-up funds ($multiM), growing effective, multi-disciplinary teams, and completing $multiM licensing deals with a FTSE100 plc. He is also an Entrepreneur in Residence (under the UK's Small Business Charter) actively supporting a number of early-stage companies across the UK at both strategic and operational levels.

Although his degrees are in engineering and artificial intelligence, he has set-up / run start-ups in a variety of sectors ranging from satellite navigat ion and geospatial engineering to professional CPD (enhancing employability skills for UK civil servants) and commercialising new food ingredients.

Building on his appointment as an Entrepreneur in Residence through the University of Nottingham in 2017, David is already working with undergraduates (all year groups; most faculties), Masters and PhD students, as well as the Business School's MBA and Executive MBA programs. He actively mentors a variety of student, staff and alumni start-up businesses through the University's Ingenuity Lab and runs regular training and evening classes about starting a business. He has also helped lead / support a variety of the University's pitching and student start-up activities includin g: mentoring and judging on the Ingenuity and Young Entrepreneur (Bioscience YES) competitions; acting as an "Elevator" (mentor) for the Duke of York's Pitch@Palace (7.0 - 9.0), and mentoring the University's entries for the 2017 & 2018 Universitas21 international Global Ingenuity Challenge.
