Sam spent eight years post-doctorally as a full-time senior economic consultant and social researcher, leading projects to help direct more than £80 billion in spend across strategic sectors such as healthcare, telecoms and the court system. He has managed for clients teams from Ipsos-MORI, Deloitte, Simetrica, Frontier Economics and IFF Research in the delivery of publications for high impact national policy programmes. He held an 18 month lecturing contract with King's College London where he specialised in teaching corporate governance and economics for the China and Globalisation programme. Sam has taught undergraduate and postgraduate business, finance, investments and research methods courses at Nottingham University Business School, and convenes the Consumers, Ethics and Regulation and Corporate Risk modules on the MSc in Banking & Finance, and MSc in Risk Management. He has won several scholarships, contracts and awards during his PhD at Nottingham and in his professional career, including the Lord Dearing Award, Building Experience and Skills Travel Award, and more recently was selected to participate in Innovate UK's ICURe Explore programme involving global engagement around commercialisation of his research, with senior officials and executives across financial services and regulation. Sam has been a visiting scholar to the University of Hong Kong, St John's College and to the School of Business, Faculty of Business & Economics. He has developed the economic and business cases and papers across a number of national sustainability-related projects, including for Kew Gardens, the Natural Capital & Ecosystem Assessment, and has provided economic support to officials working on the illegal ivory trade in the UK. Sam has two daughters, aged 16 and 24 and enjoys hiking in the Peak District National Park and running in international half marathon races.
Areas of ExpertiseSam's is a mixed methods researcher whose interests and skills include econometric modelling, machine learning, algorithmic trading and fintech, investment strategies, policy evaluation, sustainability in finance, and personal and professional development.
I am the co-Departmental Teaching Director (DTD) for the Finance, Accounting and Banking Department, and the Disability Liaison Officer for the school.

I am currently working on a fintech project which incorporates natural language generation and artificial intelligence in financial markets. The project is being live tested in 22 markets using around eight long-term investment strategies and has one investor. I have received sponsorship from Innovate UK's ICURe Explore programme and Nottingham University's Impact Acceleration Grant team, in addition to the Inclusive Fintech lab. I have a British Academy Small Grant award looking at the intersection between business, finance, policy and the environment in the UK and Singapore. Two papers are currently under review.
