Tren joined Nottingham University Business School in 2023 after completing his studies at the University of Glasgow. Prior to that, he held positions as a Lecturer in Mathematics at Thang Long University (Vietnam) and as a Visiting Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis.
Tren's research interests lie primarily in financial economics, with a focus on financial econometrics, empirical asset pricing and the applications of machine learning in finance. His recent work includes, but is not limited to: i) the development and application of novel econometric methods to assess the performance of hedge funds, mutual funds, and trading strategies; ii) the use of deep learning to identify profitable patterns; and iii) the application of large language models to a wide range of financial topics. His work has been selected for presentation at prestigious conferences, such as the American Finance Association Annual Meeting (AFA), the China International Conference in Finance (CICF), and the Institute for Quantitative Investment Research (INQUIRE) Conference, among others, as well as published in leading finance journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
Tren is particularly interested in supervising PhD students with strong quantitative skills such as those with background in mathematics, statistics, economics, or quantitative finance. Prospective PhD students are encouraged to contact him directly via email.
