Clara Benita Jesula Justin Thomas - MSc Digital Marketing

Clara Benita Jesula Justin Thomas studied MSc Digital Marketing in 2024/25 at Nottingham University Business School. She chose to study at Nottingham as she wanted to study at a Russell Group university recognised for its academic excellence.

She said: “Marketing has always fascinated me with its power to shape perceptions, drive engagement, and bring creative ideas to life. As the world rapidly shifts toward digital platforms, I wanted to explore the digital side of marketing in depth. This course equips me with not only technical tools but also strategic thinking, allowing me to stay relevant and competitive in a constantly evolving industry. It’s a perfect blend of creativity, analytics, and real-world business insight.”

One of Clara’s favourite modules was Digital Marketing Strategy, where students had the opportunity to take part in a simulated marketing game called Markstrat, where they had to make strategic decisions in real time just like in a real business environment.

Clara added: “The Markstrat experience sharpened my analytical thinking, decision making, and teamwork skills while offering a fun and competitive platform to apply theoretical knowledge. It was one of the most practical and intellectually stimulating experiences of my academic journey.”

In addition to her academic studies, Clara benefitted from a range of activities that have helped prepare her for professional life - from practical tools such as HubSpot (a premium marketing platform), to hands-on workshops, live consultancy projects, and industry certifications.

“One of the standout initiatives was the collaboration with six top digital marketing firms across the UK, offering live workshops, site visits, and potential internships,” Clara explained. “Guest speakers, career-focused seminars, and access to the Digital Marketing Academy gave me a comprehensive view of the current industry landscape and the skills needed to succeed in it.”

Clara has also been actively involved in student societies, including the Tamil Society which helped her to stay connected to her cultural roots while also building friendships and leadership skills.

“A notable experience was leading the digital marketing campaign for a contestant in the Student Union Presidential elections- an intense but rewarding project, especially when she won and became SU President for 2025.” Clara said. “I am also enrolled in the Digital Marketing Academy, where I continuously work on earning certifications and staying ahead with current industry practices.”

Clara has enjoyed studying at the university, and its home city. She concluded:

“Nottingham has such a unique charm. It’s a city rich in history, full of scenic walks and green spaces, yet modern and well-connected. I love how it balances tranquillity with vibrancy. As a woman, I’ve found it to be a safe and welcoming environment, and I often enjoy long walks, soaking in the cool breeze and the rare but beautiful sunshine. It truly feels like a home away from home.”
