Krishi Shah - MSc Management 2023
Krishi completed an MSc in Management at Nottingham University Business School in 2023 and is now working in the UK as a Warehouse Operative and Quality Analyst at Precision Proco Group.
As an international student, Krishi found adapting to a new culture and environment one of the biggest challenges.
They said: “I was dealing with feelings of homesickness and being far from family and friends. To overcome these challenges I made an effort to connect with other international students who were going through similar experiences, which made me feel less isolated. I also joined various student groups and activities, which helped me build a support network and feel more integrated into the university community.”
Krishi also made full use of the university's resources, including academic support services and language workshops. They explained:
To improve my skills and confidence, I embraced new experiences and gradually grew more comfortable and confident in my new surroundings.
I used the support of the Careers and Employability Team during my job search, and it was incredibly helpful. They provided guidance on tailoring my CV and cover letters, helped me prepare for interviews, and offered insights into different career paths that aligned with my interests and skills. The workshops and one-on-one sessions were particularly valuable in boosting my confidence and refining my job search strategy.
To keep a healthy balance during studies, Krishi regularly played badminton with friends and attended various activities organised by different student societies. They said: “These events not only allowed me to engage with a wide range of interests and meet new people but also helped me build a well-rounded university experience outside the classroom.”
Krishi offered this advice for new students: "Dive into extracurricular activities and join societies or sports clubs that interest you as it's a great way to meet people, explore new interests, and build a supportive network. Take the time to get to know the campus and the city, and immerse yourself in the local community. Develop good time management skills early on to balance coursework and personal life to stay organised and reduce stress."
Their final recommendation is especially valuable:
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re struggling, there are plenty of support systems available, from tutors and advisors to student support services. Most importantly, embrace new experiences, make the most of your opportunities, and remember to enjoy the journey.
