How to get the most out of the virtual fair

If you're new to virtual fairs, watch the video and read our tips to help you prepare and make sure you get the most out of this event.

  • Do your research - Make sure you look into the employers you're interested in speaking to. What do they do? What jobs and internships are they offering? What subjects are they recruiting students from? If you're stuck for ideas, read Rosie's blog on the four key areas to research to give you some starting points.
  • Prepare some questions - The virtual fair gives you the opportunity to ask questions in a group or one-to-one chat environment, including by video call. Come up with some good questions that show the recruiter you are interested in the company and that you have done some prior research.
  • Update your CV - At the virtual fair you can upload your CV for potential employers to view ahead of the day. This is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door. Head to our CV page for advice.
  • Plan your time - Some employers will be delivering short presentations and some will be available to chat throughout the day. Make sure you plan who you would like to speak to and if they are particularly busy you can always speak to someone else on your list while you wait.
  • Be open to new ideas - Look at what each company and role offers. Who knows, you could find something you haven't considered before.
  • Get to grips with the platform - Watch this short video in advance of the fair to learn about the features of the platform and how to use them.
  • Login and click 'Attend' - This not only ensures you have access to all the features of the fair, such as uploading your CV in advance of the day so employers can view it, but also gives you the opportunity to check for any sneaky technical issues.
  • Set up your profile - Populate your fair profile with information about you and your studies to help make you stand out to employers.
  • And finally... - Make use of the new one-to-one chat option to speak directly to employers, have some good questions to hand and make a great first impression.
