Description

Title: Cooperating beyond group boundaries: behavioural interventions and principles

Abstract: Overcoming large-scale social dilemmas often requires cooperation across group boundaries. While group identity can promote cooperation within groups, it may also reduce individuals’ willingness to cooperate with members of other groups. In this project, we study cooperation between two distinct groups that must coordinate to reach a threshold required for the provision of a public good. We examine the roles of incentives, personal norms, social norms, and social preferences in driving behaviour. Finally, we test whether interventions that strengthen (weaken) group boundaries can promote (hinder) universal cooperation.
