American Studies postgraduate student and C3R postgraduate director wins the Vice-Chancellor's Medal

ACS postgrad wins vice chancellor medal

Timo Schrader has won the award in 2016 for "exceptional achievement"

The Vice-Chancellor’s Medal is for exceptional achievement in a particular arena, notable endeavour which has made a difference to the University, a substantive contribution which has enhanced the reputation of the University of Nottingham, activity which has had a noticeably positive impact for students, staff or the local community, and an individual achievement or sustained achievement over a period of time.

Parts of Timo's nomination for the medal, written by others, read: "Timo Schrader has been at the heart of a newly-revitalised postgraduate community at Nottingham, constantly thinking about how better to serve his fellow postgraduate students and how to build our community. In this sense, his brilliant and prize-winning PhD research into community-building has extended to his own community here. It is hard to fathom how he finds time for this work, as it has often involved many hours a week. But Timo possesses an unmatched energy and is already interested in the professionalisation process of postgraduate studies. He has sought to understand and engage the whole range of work that academia involves and is set to be a 21st-century academic, rooted in public engagement, knowledge exchange and impact. His intellectual curiosity, boundless energy and absolute dedication make him an excellent student, but his generosity, collaborative spirit and inclusive passion also make him an incredible community-builder. It is impossible not to be impressed by seemingly endless generation of new ideas: he has been an asset to this campus and it is a better place because of him."
