Many of you will know or have heard and/or read Jean Stubbs’s work, but,for those less familiar, she has long been one of the best-known and most respected historians of Cuba, and of the wider Caribbean, having worked and published on a wide range of topics since the 1970s, but being especially well known for her path-breaking work on tobacco and on cigar-production and distribution in and from Cuba (and also in and across the wider Caribbean) and, more recently, on migration and diaspora studies - most specifically, her project (in collaboration with Cathie Krull, also of Queens University) on the Cuban diaspora, the subject of this talk.
