World Congress of Scottish Literatures 2024 

 

WCSL24 Bursary Scheme

WCSL 2024 is offering up to 8 bursaries to support the attendance and participation of postgraduate students and early career researchers.

The following organisations have generously offered to provide bursaries of £150 each:

  • The Universities Committee for Scottish Literature (2 PGR)
  • The International Association for the Study of Scottish Literatures (2 PGR)
  • Edinburgh University Press (2 ECR)
  • University of Nottingham (1 PGR/ECR)
  • Scottish Text Society (1 PGR/ECR)

Eligibility

Postgraduate student bursaries (UCSL and IASSL)

You can apply if you meet all of the following criteria:

  1. You have registered to deliver a paper at the 4th World Congress of Scottish Literatures;
  2. You are a registered PhD student (full-time or part-time);
  3. You are self-funding your PhD studies OR you have exhausted other sources of funding to support your participation in 4th WCSL.

Early Career Researcher Bursaries (EUP)

You can apply if you meet all of the following criteria:

  1. You have registered to deliver a paper at the 4th World Congress of Scottish Literatures;
  2. You are within 5 years of graduation with a PhD;
  3. You are not currently in a permanent academic post.

Early Career Researcher/postgraduate student Bursaries (supported by UoN ):

You can apply for an Early Career Researcher Bursary if you meet the following criteria:

  1. You have registered to deliver a paper at the 4th World Congress of Scottish Literatures;
  2. You are a registered PhD student (full time or part-time) or within 5 years of graduation with a PhD;
  3. You are not currently in a permanent academic post.

  Early Career Researcher/postgraduate student Bursaries (Scottish Text Society):

You can apply for an Early Career Researcher Bursary if you meet the following criteria:

  1. You have registered to deliver a paper at the 4th World Congress of Scottish Literatures;
  2. You are a registered PhD student (full time or part-time) or within 5 years of graduation with a PhD;
  3. You are not currently in a permanent academic post.
  4. You are working on pre-1700 material

To apply

Please complete the application form which should be emailed to ae-wcsl24@exmail.nottingham.ac.uk. Please make it clear in the subject line that it is a bursary application form.

Please ensure the following attachments are included:

  • Completed application form
  • For postgraduate students: A letter of support from your Principal Supervisor, briefly explaining what they hope that you will gain from participating in the Congress. This should also confirm that you are a registered PhD student and indicate your year of study.
  • For early career researchers: A letter of support from your Principal Supervisor or one of your examiners, briefly explaining why you would benefit from participating in the Congress and confirming the date of your graduation.

Deadline for applications

The deadline to apply for a bursary is 5pm, Friday 17 May.

Award Outcome and Bursary Payments

Bursary award outcomes will be communicated via email on Friday 31 May. 

If you are successful, the award will be refunded back onto the card used to pay your Registration fee. All bursaries will be paid out by mid-June.
