Sparti, Archaeology & Green Tourism: Strategies for the Preservation and Promotion of the Monuments of Laconia
The 1st Local Forum of Spartan Studies aims to foster dialogue on sustainable archaeology and green tourism (ecotourism) and to propose integrated cultural strategies on the management of the rich archaeological and historical heritage of Sparta and the wider region of Laconia as a pioneering case study for Greece.
Through an interdisciplinary and science-based approach, the Forum participants will seek to link cultural policy with environmental management, local community involvement and economic development. The Forum organisers wish to fashion a holistic model that will enhance cultural accessibility, promote the preservation of cultural heritage and transform cultural management as a tool for social and tourism development.
The Forum is co-organised by:
The Region of Peloponnese
The Municipality of Sparti
The Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies (University of Nottingham)
The Society for Spartan Studies
With the support and patronage of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture
