This event is for University of Nottingham students who have been accepted onto a formal outgoing exchange programme.

This event will take place in person and is intended to help prepare students for their exchange by providing information on health, finance, careers and other practical matters.

Programme

This year's pre-departure conference will take place over two days: Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 May. It will consist of a series of presentations, workshops and networking opportunities. 

The programme of activities is below and includes details of when and where each activity will take place. To register your interest in attending a session you must register through the booking form and you will receive a calendar invite to confirm your registration. 

Key presentations will be recorded and will be found on Moodle so you can access them at any point after they have been made available.

Careers presentation: Maximising the benefits of your study abroad 

The careers team will look at ways your time abroad can enhance your employability and what you can do while away to maximise this.

Academic preparations

Studying at another university and in another country means you are going to be studying in a different academic environment, this session will look at preparing you for this.

Mandatory for students undertaking credit bearing exchange (International Exchange, ACS, International Management, Law). A03 Monica Partridge  11.30am-12.15pm

Predeparture networking lunch

Network with other students due to study abroad and meet past study abroad students and current incoming exchange students.

Bring your own lunch.

Study abroad staff will also be on hand to answer any questions.

Useful for all students studying abroad for a summer, semester or full year. Monica Partridge Atrium 12.15pm-1pm

Travel workshop

This interactive workshop is for students less confident in travel or who have not undertaken independent travel before. This session will provide advice and guidance on travelling to other countries and practical examples.

Any student but particularly relevant to those with limited independent travel experience.

A session looking at study abroad finances and how to approach budgeting for your exchange.

 What is a Visa?

This session is designed to dispel the various myths surrounding visas and the immigration process.

 Health and safety while on exchange

This presentation is an essential part of your exchange preparations. Understanding the safety and security of your exchange destination is vital. 

Mandatory for students on International Exchange, Intercampus Exchange, ACS, International Management, International Summer Schools and Law exchanges.

Adapting to living in a new culture

This session will discuss culture shock, cultural norms, adapting to a new culture and looking after your mental health while on exchange.
