Teaching and Learning

In 2017 we were awarded Gold for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the highest standard in teaching quality. Our foundations for enhancing the student learning experience are already strong, and our use of digital will build on and complement that excellence.

We have already made significant steps in advancing the use of digital technologies for teaching and learning, particularly through improvements to classroom based technologies such as lecture capture systems, and virtual learning capabilities.

But there is more that we can do to ensure a world-class gold standard teaching experience, and so we aim to focus on:

  • Evolving systems to support blended learning, with technologies to enhance real-time classroom based learning and virtual learning experiences
  • Ensuring our use of technology in learning supports the widest range of platforms and spaces through which our students learn, from smartphones to libraries
  • Developing a fourth campus - our "virtual" campus
  • Supporting our students to develop their own digital skills
  • Ensuring our academic colleagues lead and steer our advances in digital learning, while also ensuring that their own skills development is well supported
  • Providing advanced intelligence in learning progress and student performance, with the ability to signal early warning alerts when performance is compromised.
