Research Centres

Research centres

Our four research centres are an important way for us to:

  • generate research and impact projects
  • secure funding for ongoing and future research
  • help build collaborative networks across the University and with partners in the heritage, education and public sectors

This makes for a supportive and thriving research culture, where our staff and students can build their research portfolios and forge long-lasting collaborative relationships.

CRAL research

Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics (CRAL)

Dedicated to the study of language in real-world contexts, including medical settings, English language teaching, and business, legal, and public sector environments.

CRLC research

Centre for Regional Literature and Culture (CRLC)

Bringing together researchers working on place and identity, writing and the local, regional and national literary cultures, cultural geographies, and literary recoveries.

Research and reading groups

All four of our research centres house specialist research and/or reading groups, which provide further opportunties for research inquiry and collaboration.
