David Ross Sports Village

The redevelopment of the University Park Sports Centre is the latest capital project on the University's main campus and has commenced on site.

The latest update of the project can be seen in the newsletter.

The new £40m sports centre will enhance and increase the University's standing in sport and is a key requirement to underpin the emerging strategy to deliver a new 'Vision for Sport', further details of this can be found on the Department of Sport website.

The key space within the building is the 3,840m2 sports hall, which will support the following:

  • 20 badminton courts;
  • 4 netball courts;
  • 4 volleyball courts;
  • 4 basketball courts;
  • 4 handball courts;
  • 4 indoor hockey pitches;
  • 2 korfball pitches;
  • 4 futsall pitches;
  • As well as opportunities in other sports such as five-a-side football;

Other sports facilities within the development are:

  • 6 glass fronted squash courts;
  • 1 all glass squash show court 
  • archery hall/fencing pistes;
  • table tennis;
  • climbing wall;
  • 200 station fitness suite;
  • 2 large multi-purpose studio spaces;
  • Dojo;
  • Snooker room;

As well as all the sports facilities within the building,  a host of other facilities will be available, including:

  • Strength and conditioning suite, including an 80m sprint track;
  • Large catering facility;
  • Seminar room;
  • Sports science area, including hydrotherapy pool and physiotherapy rooms;
  • Changing rooms;
  • Direct indoor link to the swimming pool;

Gardiner and Theobald are acting as lead consultant, client facing project manager and cost manager.

David Morley Architects are the projects architect.

Price and Myers are acting as civil and structural engineer.

Max Fordham are acting as services engineer.
