Investigating the floor at Knole
‘Knole Revealed: archaeology and discovery at a great country house’, Nathalie Cohen (National Trust)
3rd December 2019, 5-7pm
A2 Humanities Building, University Park, University of Nottingham
Nathalie Cohen presents the 2019 Maurice Barley Memorial Lecture. Nathalie will be discussing the award-winning historic building project at Knole, an iconic medieval and early modern residence.
This presentation will outline discoveries made and research undertaken during the National Trust’s long-running conservation project at Knole in Kent; a site which has been an archbishops palace, a royal residence and a family home. The results of investigations in the landscape, and within the building, undertaken by professional and volunteer archaeologists will be presented, in order to explore the multi-period archaeology of this significant site.
This event is free of charge and will be followed by a reception with wine and mince pies. All welcome.
The late Maurice Barley was the first professor of Archaeology at The University of Nottingham, a pioneer of buildings archaeology, in which the University maintains a strong and vibrant tradition, and one of the founders of York Archaeological Trust.
This event is supported by the Department of Classics and Archaeology, and the Institute for Medieval Research. For further information, please contact Chris King: chris.king@nottingham.ac.uk.
