Antigone screening

Date(s)
Tuesday 28th October 2014 (19:00-22:00)
Description

CADRE (Centre for Ancient Drama and its Reception) is screening Jean Anouilh's Antigone on Tuesday 28 October (starting around 7pm) in room A3, Humanities Building.  Refreshments will be available.

This adaptation of Sophocles' original dates to 1943 France and has been read as a coded criticism of Marshal Pétain's Vichy government. The production being shown was made for American television in 1974 (in English!) and stars Genevieve Bujold.

After the showing you can choose to stay on for a discussion of the play and its relationship to Sophocles' original. It will also be interesting to compare it to the recent Pilot Theatre production of Roy Williams' version.  For more information please contact Lynn Fotheringham.
