Underwater archaeology - Jon Henderson helps to survey ancient naval battle site

The Department of Archaeology's Professor Jon Henderson is playing a vital part in surveying the site of the Battle of the Egadi Islands. Just off the coast of Sicily a naval battle took place in March 241BC. This location is now undergoing thorough observation by a team of archaeologists. This exciting project is leading in this field as this battle site is the first ancient site to be discovered and surveyed in such detail, using innovative underwater archaology techniques to reveal the history behind the area.
