Dr Lawrence Butler (PhD 1961)

The department is sad to learn of the death of University alumnus Dr Lawrence Butler (PhD 1961) on 10 December 2014.

A noted expert on Church Archaeology, he taught at the Universities of Leeds and York and was Consultant Archaeologist at Lincoln, Wakefield and Sheffield cathedrals and York Minster, member of the Cathedrals Advisory Commission for over 10 years, and active in Castles Studies Group, the Society for Church Archaeology, the societies for Medieval and Post-Medieval Archaeology and the Cambrian and Yorkshire archaeological societies.
