When the going gets tough…

Alumni and staff members Helen Foster (Social and Cultural Studies, 1994) and Eleanor Duthie (Classics, 1989) have walked across the country to raise almost £3,000 for the University’s research into Multiple Sclerosis. They completed the 200-mile coast-to-coast in a fortnight with only wet day and not a blister in sight.

“There were times when it was tough, both physically and mentally, and that was when the sponsorship and support of so many friends, colleagues and well-wishers got us through,” said Eleanor. “The route is all beautiful – the Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors – and the people we met were all really friendly. At Robin Hood’s Bay, lots of other coast-to-coasters were there to celebrate with others finishing – and everyone got a big cheer. We would recommend it to anyone. It was well worth every bit of effort.”
