Department of Classics Teaching Associate and Secretary for the Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies, Peter Davies, gave an interview to the Corriere Trentino newspaper while giving a talk in Trento, Northern Italy late last year.
The interview discussed Peter's work on the use of the image and tradition of the pseudo-mythical Spartan lawgiver Lykourgos by the three “revolutionary” Spartan kings Agis, Kleomenes and Nabis, and explored why the Spartans retain such a hold over the modern world, and what inspiration modern people look for in the ancient world.
It appeared on the front page of the Culture and Leisure section of the newspaper on the 13 December 2014 (English transcript also available).
