Assistant Professor in Roman History, Faculty of Arts
I arrived at Nottingham in September 2018. Before that, I did my undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Oxford, where I was also a Fellow by Examination at All Souls College.

I enjoy teaching a wide range of topics across the history of the ancient world. My current and upcoming teaching includes a first-year introduction to ancient history, a module on Britain in the Later Roman Empire, and a special subject on Francia in the age of Clovis and Gregory of Tours. In the past, I have also taught Greek and Latin language, as well as modules on the fourth-century Roman Empire, the emperor Justinian, and ancient narratives.
I am an historian of the later Roman Empire and late antiquity more generally. I wrote my doctoral thesis on the Roman Empire under Constantine, his sons, and successors, with a particular focus on Constantius II and Julian the Apostate - I am currently turning it into a book. I also work on late-antique and medieval attempts to write Roman history, late-antique letters and letter collections, and the manuscripts and transmission of late-Latin texts.
