Associate Professor Ross Balzaretti's book to be published by Bloomsbury

Dark Age Liguria

Ross Balzaretti's book on Dark Age Liguria is to be published on the 28th March by Bloomsbury. It is the first book in any language that looks at the transition from the Roman Empire to early Middle Ages - from an unaccustomed, regional perspective.

The book contains chapters on historical ecology, settlement change, politics, religion and the city of Genoa. In addition the book surveys all the available early medieval evidence from this region (documents, archaeology, climate evidence, material objects) and closes by discussing nearly 20 years of undergraduate fieldwork in and around the town of Varese Ligure.
