Welcome from Professor Zoe Wilson
An opportunity to lead a newly established Institute within the Faculty of Science and help build a carbon neutral, environmentally regenerative, sustainable food system for all.
Thank you for your interest in the position of Director of the University of Nottingham Food Systems Institute. This is an exciting time for food and agricultural research at the University of Nottingham which has been fostered through University programmes and centres including recent activities from the Future Food Beacon and is developing to now encompass the full scope of Food Systems research. The Institute will reach out across the University, and so this is an exciting opportunity to work in a truly interdisciplinary manner to address one of the pressing issues of our time and to deliver research and innovation across food systems.
I am seeking a highly motivated individual with deep knowledge of the relevant components of food systems, or (preferably) the food system as a whole. The University of Nottingham has strength across the food system, including biosciences, social science, manufacturing, engineering, nutrition and beyond. Through this role you will guide the establishment of the University of Nottingham Food Systems Institute, you will relish the opportunity to shape and develop the Institute, to link these areas and to lead and support funding bids on large transdisciplinary grants working across the University. You will develop and implement a clear vision and lead the core team, providing intellectual leadership in food systems research. You will be able to bring people together and act as a catalyst to capitalise on the excellence within Nottingham and to drive excellence yourself.
In addition, you will work externally with industry, business and government to capitalise on the huge opportunity for Food Systems research locally, nationally and internationally. You will work with thought-leaders from academia, larger corporates and SMEs, policy specialists, consumer organisations and other third sector organisations. The Institute will be an end-to-end platform to drive research and innovation across food systems, to forge such ideas into funded projects, and to enable the delivery of projects, policies, guidance and innovations with real and lasting economic and societal impact.
This is a fantastic opportunity to shape something and to capitalise on the incredible work ongoing in the area and drive the next phase of this activity at the University of Nottingham. The University of Nottingham is a community where everyone can contribute and be appreciated for who they are. We strive to provide an inclusive, respectful and considerate environment and as such, we invite and encourage candidates from under-represented groups to consider applying for this opportunity.Thank you again for your interest in the position, and I look forward to your application.
