The role
The Provost is responsible for the leadership and management of the University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus (UNNC), and will play a crucial role in building on UNNC’s unique heritage and ensuring its future success in one of the world’s most dynamic and competitive higher education landscapes.
Reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Shearer West and the UNNC Board, the successful appointee will be able to further develop UNNC’s existing strengths in research and education and identify new opportunities emerging from the expansion of China's higher education sector and thriving industries.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for shaping the vision and delivering the strategic plan for UNNC
- Responsible for all academic matters relating to UNNC, ensuring that the quality and reputation of the University of Nottingham are upheld at all times
- Leadership of the staff team at UNNC
- Responsible for ensuring that a productive partnership is maintained with the joint venture partners, the Ministry of Higher Education and other government departments, universities and colleges in the region
- Responsible for ensuring strong links and a partnership approach with Faculties, Schools and Departments in Nottingham
- Responsible for liaising as appropriate with the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice- Chancellor for Global Engagement, the Provost (UK) and Provost (Malaysia) and University Executive Board in Nottingham; plus other relevant University committees
- Responsible for the management of financial and non-financial resources
- Responsible for ensuring that the university complies with relevant regulations/policies in both China/Malaysia and the UK

Qualifications/Education
- A higher degree, PhD or professional doctorate in a relevant academic area
Skills/training
- Excellent organisational ability
- Communication and teaching skills
Experience
- Substantial experience in a leadership role in complex global, knowledge/learning organisation
- Successful track record in significant leadership roles: managing resources, leading teams, managing change and delivering organisational goals
- Track record of leading growth, enhanced performance and driving quality outcomes
- Substantial commercial experience, experience of creating opportunities and maximising revenue
- Experience of developing an effective set of internal and external stakeholder relationships; ability to influence effectively with senior academic leaders
- Track record of research funding and publication at international level
