30 June update: Libraries phased re-opening

Hallward-Banner

We've been hard at work putting together plans for the safe re-opening of our libraries to provide staff and students at the University with access to resources and facilities.

We will be re-opening our library buildings in phases, first for book return, click and collect and scanning services before transitioning to offer a wider range a services, including browsing, access to study space and printing.

Our priority as we re-open will be to ensure the health and safety of our staff and of those who use our libraries. You will find that our libraries will look, and work, a little different to usual due to social distancing measures.

We will continue to offer online support to staff and students via library-helpline@nottingham.ac.uk and our drop-in Ask Libraries sessions on Microsoft Teams.

First phase - Hallward Library click and collect

Hallward Library will be the first library to re-open and we hope to be able to offer click and collect and scanning services from Monday 20 July, however, this is dependent on essential work with Estates and the Health and Safety Department. We will share confirmed dates as soon as we can.

Academic staff and students will be able to place click and collect or scanning requests for print resources that are currently available on the shelves in Hallward Library. Scanning requests are for personal use online and within copyright regulations.

Our planned opening hours for click and collect are Monday to Friday, 10am – 3pm. We also hope to be able to offer later opening one day a week.

Access to the library

During click and collect, you will only be able to access our libraries to collect requested books. You will not be able to visit the library to browse the shelves, use study spaces or access the computers and printers.

Our staff will still available online to support you with your studies, teaching or research. Visit our help and support page to find out more.

Future phases

Once click and collect is up and running at Hallward, our other libraries will follow. Initially each library will re-open with book return, click and collect and scanning services.

The current planned order for re-opening is:

  1. Hallward Library (University Park)
  2. James Cameron-Gifford (Sutton Bonington)
  3. Greenfield Medical Library (Medical School, QMC)
  4. Djanogly LRC (Jubilee Campus)
  5. George Green (University Park)
  6. Business Library (Jubilee Campus)
  7. Denis Arnold Music Library (University Park)

Alongside this, we will be working on re-opening Manuscripts and Special Collections. This is dependent upon the opening of King’s Meadow Campus.

More information

We will share any further updates about our phased re-opening on social media and the Libraries Support Hub.
