UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships Round 8- SoLS Deadline 12th April

UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships Round 8

The School of Life Sciences at the University of Nottingham is currently inviting applications from talented early career researchers for the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships scheme.

Successful applicants will join a vibrant research community of around 100 hundred postdoctoral researchers and 150 academic members of staff. We welcome applications from across our three research divisions - Cells, Organisms and Molecular Genetics (COMGen); Infections, Immunity and Microbes (IIM); and Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience (PPN), particularly within the following strategic priority areas for the School:

  • Blueprint of Life
  • Biodiversity and Climate Change
  • Engineering Biology for Sustainable Life
  • Infection and Microbes
  • Molecules to Drugs
  • Biomaterials for Health
  • Healthy Ageing

This Fellowship is for early career researchers and innovators who are either looking to transition to or establish independence, or develop their own original and ambitious plans within a commercial setting. Support is available across UKRI’s remit, and there is no minimum or maximum award value.

Awards are for up to 4 years, with the option to apply to renew for a further 3 years. The support will enable each fellow to tackle ambitious and challenging research and innovation and develop their own careers.

There are no eligibility rules based on years since PhD or whether the applicant currently holds a permanent/open-ended academic position or job role. However, if you do not hold a PhD, you must be able to demonstrate equivalent research or innovation experience or training. To assess and justify suitability for the scheme, applicants should use the person specification in Annex B in the guidance PDF.

The University can only submit a maximum of 8 applications therefore there is an internal sift process. As support is also required from the School, we are running a sift process in the School and only the candidates selected by the School panel will be allowed to submit to the University-level sift.

The date to submit applications to the internal School sift is the 12th April. Candidates selected by the School will then be encouraged to submit to the central university sift on the 28th April. Candidates selected at the university-level sift will be asked to attend a challenge panel in May followed by submission of the application to UKRI on the 4th July.

To submit an application to the School sift, please submit the following documents to the LS-fellowships@nottingham.ac.uk inbox, marking your email 'EoI for UKRI FLF round 8':

  • A CV and list of outputs, using the FLF template
  • A 4 page Case for Support with detail under the following headings:

-        Research and Innovation excellence

-        Applicant and Development

-        Impact and Strategic Relevance

-        Research and Innovation Environment

Candidates selected by the School panel will then submit the same documents and an email from the Head of School confirming in principle support for the application to the university sift by the 28th April.

Potential applicants should contact the LS-fellowships@nottingham.ac.uk mailbox to receive support to develop their applications. Any general queries can also be sent to the LS-fellowships@nottingham.ac.uk mailbox.
