Title: Rigid 2-C*-categories: existence and uniqueness of representations on operator algebras

Abstract: The unitarity requirement (C*) is maybe the most distinctive assumption on top of a monoidal or 2-categorical structure, usually motivated by quantum physics applications (quantum field theory / quantum information). The usual examples of such structures arise by considering categories of *-homomorphisms (or bimodules) of von Neumann algebras. In the talk, I will report on some recent developments in the construction and classification of representations of abstract (rigid semisimple) C*-categorical structures on von Neumann algebras.
