Notts County FC will be adopting a green and gold away kit this season – a nod to the University of Nottingham’s iconic sports team colours, showcasing what has been an outstanding year for the partnership.
The new design, which was launched by the club on 8th July, is the latest development in an exciting partnership between two of the city’s oldest, world-renowned institutions, which joined together last year in the landmark pairing.
Sam Kingman, Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Nottingham, said: “We are immensely proud of how our partnership with Notts County has developed over the last year. We have created opportunities for our students that simply wouldn’t have been possible without this collaboration, while also helping Notts County access the very best in sports science and academic expertise.
Moving forward this partnership is stronger than ever, with even more opportunities being developed together. The green and gold kit is a powerful symbol of our unity and what we are aiming to achieve, we are incredibly excited to see it on the pitch in the upcoming season.”
Since the new partnership began, there have already been a number of significant advantages to both organisations, and the club has already benefitted from the university’s state-of-the-art facilities. On their return from the summer break, the players and staff once again took full advantage of the university’s world-class physiology and biomechanics labs when carrying out pre-season testing.
Supported by the appointment of Dr David Rhodes as Director of Performance, the club will continue to use the facilities throughout the season to test and assess the squad’s physical condition and identify the most effective rehabilitation techniques for injured players.
A joint venture between the club and university will also see Highfields Sports Complex developed into a state-of-the-art training base this summer. The project includes the reconstruction of pitches, building of new facilities and repurposing of existing spaces to create a superb environment for Notts County’s first team.
Football Radar, the company founded by the club’s owners, created four part-time, remote student roles during the 2024-25 season – and the aim is to double this number for the forthcoming campaign. This collaboration provides a unique opportunity for students to gain invaluable experience of working for a leading football analysis company, opening up new avenues which can boost their career prospects.
The partnership also paved the way for Varsity football’s return to Meadow Lane last April. Almost 4,000 spectators were treated to a thrilling match which saw the University of Nottingham beat Nottingham Trent University 3-1.
Jo Simpson, Chief Revenue Officer at the University of Nottingham, said: “The strength of our partnership with Notts County lies in its ability to deliver real-world impact: for students, for athletes, and for the wider community.
“The focus of the second year of our partnership will be building on the incredible achievements of the first 12 months. Our goal is to create more student opportunities and experiences and drive new levels of performance within the team. Key to this is the joint development of our state-of-the-art training facilities at Highfields Sports Complex. This will further strengthen our performance sport ecosystem on our award-winning campus and enhance Notts County’s competitiveness.
“Seeing our university’s iconic colours integrated into the new kit is a proud moment and underlies the deep connection we have built on and off the pitch.”
Notts County’s Chief Executive Joe Palmer added: “We’re proud to celebrate our ever-growing partnership with the University of Nottingham by adopting green and gold colours for our 2025-26 away kit. When we joined forces a year ago, we committed to setting new standards for how an elite sports club integrates with an educational establishment – and we’ve certainly made great progress in that time.
“We continue to benefit from the university’s incredible performance facilities and have worked together with them to plan and fund the transformation of Highfields Sports Complex, a project which will provide huge benefits to both parties.
“In return we have provided students with incredible, first-hand experiences of working in elite sport and alongside professional athletes – as well as hosting a brilliant Varsity event at Meadow Lane.
“We’ve achieved so much together in the first year of our unique and innovative relationship and we’re looking forward to progressing together into the new season.”
