The NHS Leadership Academy has appointed Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) to deliver an NHS endorsed Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

NUBS, which is part of the University of Nottingham, is one of only seven higher education institutions  (HEIs)  in the country to have their MBA programme endorsed by the NHS.

The course is led by the University’s Centre for Health, Innovation, Leadership and Learning (CHILL) in the Business School.

Stephen Hart, National Director for Leadership at Health Education England and Managing Director for the NHS Leadership Academy said: “I’m pleased that we’re able to progress with endorsing the first ever MBA specifically designed to help build better leaders within the NHS.

“Since the Secretary of State’s speech last year, we’ve been working with partners to bring this ambitious programme to life. Work will continue into the exact detail of the programme and we look forward to working closely with HEIs and the Department of Health to develop this further.”

The University of Nottingham’s MBA programme is designed to respond to the changing global and UK landscape by developing competitive solutions to manage the competing demands of service users, commissioners and regulators.

It is for students who want to maintain a focus on the healthcare sector while receiving a generalist MBA education. Along with modules from the general Executive MBA programme, those focusing on Healthcare will undertake two specially designed modules.

Healthcare management modules are led by both academics, whose research focus specifically on management, and invited management experts from healthcare and beyond.

Dr Simon Bishop, leader of the course at NUBS, said: “The Nottingham Executive MBA Healthcare is specifically designed for managers and leaders who want to develop their career in healthcare. Participants gain the benefits of studying for an internationally recognised MBA alongside peers from many different industries, while gaining up to date knowledge and skills relevant for the challenges of contemporary healthcare.

“Specialist healthcare modules are led by both academic and industry specialists, allowing individuals to develop within a friendly and supportive learning environment.”

The other six institutions to receive the NHS endorsement are the universities of Bradford, Lancaster, Durham and Hertfordshire along with The Open University and Manchester Alliance Business School.
