Funder: Mercatus
PI: Dr Hugo Drochon
Duration: September 2022 - September 2023

Hugo Drochon has recently been awarded funding from the Pluralism and Civil Exchange Program at the Mercatus Center, George Mason University for a project on ‘Centrism from the Age of Revolutions to Today’.

Throughout history we had tended to divide politics into left and right. But what if another divide helps us make better sense of historical change and the epoch we live in? This project posits that the centre/extremes divide can help shed light on events from the French Revolution to Brexit, Trump and Macron. The aim is to write a book entitled ‘Can the Centre Hold? The Middle Ground from the Age of Revolutions to Today’.
