The expertise of the Centre for Additive Manufacturing at University of Nottingham is focussed in both single and multi-material / multifunctional AM, and the research approach is both user-centred and scientifically driven. The goal is to investigate the underpinning processes, materials and computational methods necessary for the successful execution and implementation of AM as a viable manufacturing tool.

The activity of the CfAM spans across both the fundamental and applied research. The research group members hold expertise in multiple key areas:

  • Design systems and optimisation methodologies
  • Additive Manufacturing processes
  • Materials Development
  • AM business management
  • Applications demanded by the user community

Our primary focus is to go beyond established single material ‘passive’ AM processes and applications that exhibit conventional levels of functionality, toward the challenges of investigating next generation, multi-material/multifunctional AM processes, materials and design systems.

We are focused on the discovery and understanding of advanced Additive Manufacturing (AM) solutions for high value manufacturing and further advanced research applications.
