On 19 March 2018, Professor Peter Cartwright was a speaker at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Conference on Transforming Culture in Financial Services in London. Under the title "Regulation and Reputation", Peter discussed the role that regulation and regulators might play in managing culture in the financial sector.
Peter also wrote an essay for the FCA Discussion Paper on the same theme. The paper looked in particular at the role that adverse publicity might play in improving culture. This built upon an earlier research project Peter undertook on reputational sanctioning which was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
Other speakers at the March event included FCA Chief Executive Andrew Bailey, UBS Investment Bank President Andrea Orcel, and Banking Standards Board Chief Executive Alison Cottrell. The event was attended by nearly 200 delegates from all areas of financial services and the Transforming Culture in Financial Services project is ongoing.
