On 27 February 2014, Dr. Róisín Mulgrew hosted a knowledge transfer seminar with officials from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Officials from the ICC’s Registry Section (Court Management and Detention Sections), the Presidency’s Enforcement Unit and the ICC’s Detention Centre attended the event at the Hilton Hotel, The Hague.
The seminar had twin objectives. Firstly, the event was organised to provide an informal setting in which contemporary research on international penal law and practice could be presented and discussed. Secondly, the seminar was designed to facilitate dialogue between academic scholars, practitioners and policy-makers.
During the seminar, the ICC officials heard presentations from Associate Professor Denis Abels (University of Amsterdam) on issues related to the implementation of international detention law and Dr. Róisín Mulgrew on issues related to the enforcement of international sentences of imprisonment. The seminar also facilitated a lively discussion about some key issues in the field and potential ways to develop current law and policy.
This event was possible due to a grant from the University of Nottingham’s Centre for Advanced Studies’ Higher Education Innovation Fund.
