CJRC Members at the European Society of Criminology

Members of the CJRC attended the annual conference of the European Society of Criminology, which took place in Ghent, Belgium 18-21 September.

Dr Andy Henley delivered a presentation entitledResisting civic purgatory: achieving ‘justice as fairness’ in criminal records disclosure’ and contributed to discussions at the first meeting of the new Working Group on the Collateral Consequences of Criminal Records.

Dr Kerry Clamp delivered a presentation entitled ‘Restorative Policing: A UK Case Study’ and convened the inaugural meeting of the ‘ESC Restorative Justice Working Group’. There were 23 scholars in attendance at this Working Group representing a range of countries (Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, UK, US). 

Dr Vicky Kemp delivered a presentation entitled'Digital Legal Rights: Exploring Children’s Understanding of their Legal Rights as Suspects', presented in the Thematic Working Group on Juvenile Justice steam. 

Dr Nicola Carr delivered a presentation entitled: ‘The Albatross of Juvenile Criminal Records’ and took part in a Roundtable Discussion on ‘Temporal Issues in Punishment’. She also convened the ESC Working Group on Community Sanctions and Measures.

Cerys Gibson (PGR Student) delivered a presentation entitled: 'Bridging the gap between evidence and practice: the complexities of operationalising success in police decision-making' . She  also attended the Centre for Policing and Security conference 'Street policing in a smart society' and the CPS Annual Meeting.
