Description

This week we have a guest talk from Karl Greenwood, who is a Director at First Art.

Inspiring interconnections between people, place and culture through digital technology

First Art is keen to explore ways of experimenting with, and applying digital technology to connect people and places to one another and to a range of cultural experiences. We want to explore how we use technology to bring people together to discuss, devise and develop cultural programmes in their community that are relevant and representative. Current ideas in development include a Digital Dining Club.

We want to work with individuals and partners to help identify new digital tools and approaches to support our co-production model; inspiring local people and supporting ownership of culture by enabling and equipping them to co-design events and activities.

The talk will explore a number of barriers facing local people who are not currently engaging with the existing arts and cultural offer in North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire and how can we use technology to bridge that gap.

About First Art

First Art is a partnership of five organisations, led by Creswell Crags in partnership with Junction Arts, City Arts, the Prince’s Trust and Ault Hucknall Environment Action Group. First Art is an artistic programme that inspires communities in Ashfield, Bolsover, Mansfield and NE Derbyshire to experience and get involved in the arts by bringing exceptional cultural experiences within reach of everyone. The programme aims to empower local people to take the lead in shaping arts provision and bringing high quality art activity to the local area to increase arts engagement to those who may not ordinarily take part.

First Art is part of the Creative People and Places programme and is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

First Art has already completed the first phase of its work and recently received funding from National Lottery through Arts Council England. The second phase of funding takes place from 2018 to 2022.
