Nottingham International Law and Security Centre

First annual NILSC lecture delivered by Kimberly Prost

Kimberly Prost, UN Ombudsperson to the Security Council’s Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee gave the first annual lecture of the Nottingham International Law and Security Centre (NILSC) on 17 February 2014.

Her lecture was entitled ‘A Perspective on International Criminal Law Innovations and the Security Council: A Journey from the Hague to New York'.  Kimberly drew upon her experiences as a judge at the ICTY and, since 2010, as the first ombudsperson at the UN Security Council to critically evaluate the development of mechanisms of individual justice driven by the decisions and activities of the UN Security Council. Kimberly gave the audience real insights into the workings of the UN and the central importance of international law.

It was a fascinating lecture and stimulated an interesting discussion at the end with a number of insightful questions and comments from the audience. The lecture was introduced by Professor Nigel White, Co-Director of NILSC.
