Research – Making an Impact

Dr Lauren Bradford has been approached by a production team to develop a fictional production based on the themes in her doctoral research. Lauren completed her ESRC-funded PhD at the University of Sheffield and was awarded her doctorate in June 2020 for her thesis entitled ‘Hidden Victims: an exploration of the criminal justice experiences of homicide bereaved people in England and Wales’.

Along with Poli-Productions, the project has been awarded £10,000 from NI Screen to develop episode outlines, character descriptions and pilot script to be pitched to a national broadcaster at a later date. Lauren is excited about the potential platform this offers to disseminate her research and contribute to public consciousness around victimisation experiences and criminal justice interactions. In particular, this project offers a unique opportunity to fulfil the main research aim in her PhD which was to offer this group of crime victims a voice, when so much of what they experience renders them voiceless.
