Find out more about what the peer mentoring scheme is and what to expect from it.

Undergraduate mentors

Before you arrive, you will be assigned a mentor. The mentors are mainly second year students with some senior mentors from the third year.

All new first years are assigned a Computer Science mentor, and the team are there to help you transition into university life, as well as studying in Computer Science. They have just finished their first year and were in your shoes this time last summer. They can share their experiences and answer questions before you arrive in Nottingham, and they will be here to welcome you during welcome week. As well as meeting them on Discord before you arrive, you will have regular timetabled sessions with your mentors throughout the first semester. These sessions are for you to get tips and for them to share experiences such as how to study key first year topics, help you access the right advice, and provide you academic support.

Postgraduate mentors

We also have volunteer mentors that have recently completed an MSc or are studying for a PhD.

By the time students are undertaking postgraduate study, they are usually used to university life, and know how to study at university level. But perhaps you have questions about studying computer science, or what life is like in Nottingham specifically. We have a small number of oostgraduate mentors that are happy to chat with you online and throughout the year.
