Mobile Technologies

Mobile technologies such as podcasting and vodcasting are enabling students to extend their learning beyond the classroom.  Interactive resources can be made available to them round the clock.  Read more below about how staff across the University are broadening the learning experience of their students by innovative use of these technologies.  Visit the Research pages to read about how the core team is investigating the uses of mobile technologies in HE .

The podcasts have proved to be useful learning tools across a range of modules and have formed part of out-of-class 'learning circle' activities.

Dr Paddy Tighe and Dr Sally Chappell are from the Department of Molecular Medical Sciences.  Here they look at how online video tutorials help students use vital bioinformatics software , and how a video resource of lab techniques means students can refresh their understanding from the comfort of their own homes!

Dr Rolf Wiesemes is the Senior Research Fellow for the VLL.  Here he looks at the ethical and practical factors involved in using podcasting technologies in HE.

Dr Richard Pemberton and Dr Jane Evison are lecturers in the School of Education.  This article looks at their audiopodcasting initiative TESOL Talk from Nottingham (TTFN) , which aims to provide podcasts on topics relating to the MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Dr Cathy Gibbons is a Researcher Development Manager for the Graduate School.  This article describes a project she undertook to pilot the use of hand-held devices to support the learning of nurses .
