Managing Organisations

Module Content:
Students are provided with concepts, theories and illustrations which will help them become effective managers in a rapidly changing world. To enable this the following issues will be considered:
- Organisational design: in particular the alignment of strategy, structure and environment.
- The management of organisational processes: organisational culture; organisational change; decision making; power, conflict and control; knowledge management;
- The relation between organisational design, management and organisational performance.

Module Aims:
To introduce key concepts in managing organisations; to investigate how
organisations interact with their environments; to facilitate a critical understanding
of the core issues in contemporary organisations; to provide a framework for
understanding the systems and management role in organisations; to provide
a guide for exploring management issues in a global context; and to develop
the ability to diagnose and solve organisational problems.

Module Assessment:
Individual Coursework (4,000 words) (100%)
