Contemporary Chinese Culture and Society

Module Content:
This module introduces students to key concepts in the understanding of contemporary Chinese culture and features of Chinese society, including:
• Continuity and change in the Chinese family
• Rural and urban society
• Chinese youth and generational identity
• Ethnicity and religion in contemporary China
• The arts and popular culture

Module Aims:
To develop students' knowledge and understanding of continuity and change in China's society and culture during the reform era. It complements other taught-postgraduate modules on China's contemporary history, politics, law, economic development, and business

Module Assessment:
Coursework 1, Portfolio report (2,000 words) (50%); Coursework 2, essay (1,500 words) (45%); Coursework 3, 500 word reflection report (3%); Participation (2%)
