  • at undergraduate level we offer a BA in Modern Languages with Translation

  • all of our courses are available on a full-time or part-time basis

  • we use state-of-the-art interpreting facilities which have been built to the same specifications as those used by the UN in Geneva

  • you can study translation studies as a taught MA or at PhD level
  • we offer expert supervision for projects involving English and the following languages: French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian.  

  • we have specialists in historical linguistics and translation studies from the 18th century to the present.

Research

  • our particular research strengths include audio-visual translation, translation theory, translation of literary and philosophical texts, translation between Asian (esp. Chinese) and Western contexts, post-colonial translation and intercultural competences.
  • we are home to the Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies
