Biography

Graeme Docherty is Senior Adminstrative Officer in the School of Politics & International Relations dealing with many aspects of research support within the School. He formerly worked for the UK Centre for Alcohol & Tobacco Studies (UKCTAS) at the University of Nottingham where he assisted and facilitated research within the UKCTAS. Prior to 2008, he worked in NHS Research and Development at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. He holds MA and MSc degrees from the University of Glasgow.

Current Research

Graeme has assisted in the initiation/set up of many projects, in particular dealing with Ethics and NHS permissions for research. He has had substantial involvement in the following projects, working with other UKCTAS researchers:

  • A randomised control trial of a telephone 'quitline' investigating two types of cessation support and the option of 'no cost' nicotine replacement therapy (the PORTSSS trial).
  • An action research project using qualitative methods to explore smoking in a deprived community in Nottingham with a view to implementing interventions to decrease smoking prevalence in the area.
  • Future research is likely to include quantitative analysis of existing datasets to explore the concept of 'hardening' in smokers who cannot or do not want to quit.
