Widening Participation and Outreach

Wideining Participation banner4

The Widening Participation and Outreach team provides student recruitment outreach activities for schools and colleges locally and nationally, starting at primary school age. Students who are underrepresented in higher education are targeted with tailored widening participation activities. On campus events, including the university-wide open days and offer-holder days are designed to attract and convert high calibre students to the university.

Working with schools and colleges

We work with local schools and colleges offering a variety of activities, at both primary and secondary level, which aim to raise aspirations, and support progression to university. We also offer sessions for Access to HE and vocational learners

We also run a range of programmes which support individual students including Pathways to Law, Pathways to STEM, Ambition Nottingham and four week-long summer schools.

We work with IntoUniversity to support them in providing students from the age of 7 to 18, with impartial information about university, in order to raise the aspirations of disadvantaged students across Nottingham.

We also work closely with colleagues across the university to ensure that our activities are integrated and effective.

Widening participation

The Widening Participation (WP) team provides university staff and students with advice and support to encourage and enable learners from less advantaged backgrounds to access the University of Nottingham and higher education generally. Programmes including Ambition Nottingham and the residential summer schools target students who are underrepresented in higher education.
