We know your association with the Green and Gold is a proud one and have heard from many of you how the impact of playing rugby transcended the white lines on the turf, fostering many other character-building attributes; resilience, teamwork, empathy and communication.
Whether individually or as a team, by giving to the centenary appeal you are playing a part in enabling more students to benefit from the unique experiences which you also had during your time on campus.
Our facilities, including the world-class David Ross Sports Village which opened in 2016, are already helping the University provide a greater number of students with opportunites to participate - supporting our scholarship students especially. And perhaps more than ever before the link between playing sport and its positive impact on personal wellbeing and mental health is something with which we can all identify.
Your support can transform futures
The money you donate will support several priority areas of development, with a particular focus on coaching. For many of you a coach will have played a huge part in your university life, developing both your playing skills and just as importantly, your growth into adulthood. By recruiting and retaining high calibre coaches we can create the platform for our students to thrive on and off the pitch.
This will also build on the legacy of Vaughan Parry Williams, who played such a transformational role for the Rugby Club over the course of 30 years; taking the club to two UAU Rugby finals, winning the 7s title once and finishing runners-up twice.
The Club now has a full-time Head of Rugby, Paul Westgate, to oversee the 200 club rugby players and support the development of our intramural rugby programme. We have also been able to appoint a Lead Coach for our Women's Programme thanks to a generous donation and with your support the Club can also recruit in the following areas:
