Interns Archive

The intern initiatve began in September 2008.  This page looks at some of the highlights of intern activity since that time.

School Visits

The VLL contacted Heads of School across the University to see if they were interested in a visit from the interns to talk to them or train them up on visual classroom-based technologies.  Between them the interns visited the Schools of:

  • Mathematical Studies
  • Contemporary Chinese Studies
  • Education
  • Law
  • Graduate-entry Medicine and Health
  • Sociology and Social Policy
  • Humanities
  • American and Canadian Studies
  • Pharmacy
  • The Graduate School
  • Sutton Bonington Graduate Centre
  • Veterinary Medicine and Science

These visits have helped to cement relationships between the VLL and the wider community in the University.

The Big Draw

Lead by VLL intern and artist Yewande Okuleye, The Big Draw took place in October 2009.  It included a free workshop facilitated by Yewande and University scientist Dr Fergus Doherty.

Children were invited to 'Take a line for a walk through the visual landscape of nano, microscopic, macroscopic and cosmic images and objects.Draw from observation and the imagination and then manipulate the scale of images to show new and strange relationships.Become a surrealist artist.  See through the eyes of scientists and experience molecules in 3D. Experience collaborative drawing on Thunder™ - The Visual Learning Lab electronic multi-screen flipchart. Whatever you choose to do, we want you to have an exciting and memorable day'.  The pictures from the event show just how successful this was!

Student Video Competition

The interns initiated the VLL Student Video Competition and were active in promoting it to their peers.  All in all nine videos were submitted.  The winner will be announced in March 2010.
