Current Research

My research is in the field of Structural Composite Materials, particularly in the sectors of Automotive and Aerospace Engineering. My analytic work is based on predictive modelling of structural properties of discontinuous and textile composite components using the finite element method at micro-, meso- and macro levels of scale. The work is directed at static, fatigue and impact load cases and is based on implicit and explicit formulations.

My experimental research studies are based on the development of processing techniques for affordable carbon composite materials using directed fibre preforming technologies. Our techniques use both virgin and recycled carbon fibres in moulding compounds and preforming processes.

Nick is a part of the Composites Research Group.

Past Research

Implicit and explicit finite element analysis of engineering structures.

Future Research

Computational and experimental analysis of composite material structural properties under static and dynamic conditions.

I welcome enquiries from potential PhD candidates from Home, EU and International countries who are interested in the following research areas: Design and Manufacture of Composite Materials, particularly in the sectors of Automotive and Aerospace Engineering.
