I am the head of the Nottingham Astronomy Group. I work primarily in the fields of extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology. This work combines detailed studies of local galaxies with observations of the galaxy population at intermediate and high redshifts. Data obtained with stat-of-the-art ground- and space-based observatories are analysed using detailed theoretical models with the aim of explaining how galaxies form and evolve in different environments. The ultimate goal is to understand the main physical mechanisms that produce the galaxies we observe today.
