Jillian Rickly is Professor of Tourism. She joined the Nottingham University Business School in 2014. She is a tourism geographer working in two main areas: authenticity/alienation and accessibility. She has spent much of her career examining the role of authenticity/alienation in tourism motivation and experience. This research has been situated in a variety of tourism contexts: heritage, nature, adventure, dark, among others. More recently, she has developed a new research agenda related to accessibility and travel behaviour. This work is specifically focused on people with disabilities who have assistance dogs and examines the role of this human-animal relationship to travel behaviour across the transport, travel and tourism sectors. This has inspired collaborations with Guide Dogs for the Blind and Assistance Dogs UK.

Jillian is the Series Editor for De Gruyter Studies in Tourism. She also serves an Associate Editor for the Annals of Tourism Research, and is on the editorial boards of Mobiliites, Tourist Studies, and Journal of Qualitative Research in Tourism.

Her latest books include:
Exploring non-human work in tourism: From beasts of burden to animal ambassadors (2021) Rickly, J.M. and Kline, C (Eds.) De Gruyter.

Authenticity and Tourism: Materialities, Perceptions, Experiences (2018) Rickly, J.M. and E.S. Vidon (Eds.) Emerald Publications.
